What is an RSS and how do I use it?

October 18, 2007 by Steve

RSS Feed is a service provided by a company called FeedBurner. Using an RSS Feed makes it easier for you to receive content as soon as it’s published from my blog . There are two options to receive updated content via an RSS Feed.

Option No. 1: Email Updates

This is by far the simpler approach to receive blog updates. If you don’t want to be bothered with RSS Feed because it seems too technical, you can always subscribe via email.

Once you subscribe to my blog you will receive an email to confirm your subscription. Once you confirm your subscription you will receive the latest content from my blog.

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

Option No. 2: RSS Feed

The second option is to receive new content directly from an RSS Feed. The RSS Feed icon looks like an orange speaker. It’s the internationally recognized symbol for RSS Feed. You can see the icon at the top right of my blog just above my subscriber count.

There are many different types of readers you can use to access my live feed. Once you click on the RSS Feed icon, you will be provided with options to select your preferred reader. Subscribing is easy just by clicking on the link below.

Click here to subscribe via an RSS Feed.

Benefits of Subscription

The benefits of subscribing to an RSS Feed include:

  • Instant information and content delivered to you as soon as it becomes available.
  • Easy access - information comes to you instead of you going to find the information.
  • Trusted reviews of products and services sent directly to your email or feed reader.
  • Forgot the domain? RSS feed will send the information directly to you.

Still Confused? Here’s a video that explains RSS Feed in plain english:

I was just reading an Email from a man called Bob Proctor.
This letter told me your story of climbing a ladder with a 50yr old woman named Diana.
I ‘d like to say “Well done you”. Both of you were blessed that day and I hope you have remained friends.
It seems that it’s not easy to reach out to others - whether you are skilled or in need of help from those with the skills.
You seem to have the skills and I am reaching out to you in hope that you can help me too. However I do not have the ability to pay for your help.
My name is Diana, I am 49yrs old and have spent most of my life having no confidence in myself. I can decide on a goal eg “to lose weight” To go from 101kg to 68kg but that’s as far as I get. How do I prove to myself that I can achieve such a goal, especially after trying to achieve that same goal since I was 13yrs old. It seems to be improbable if not down right impossible. I have the idea that if I could achieve this goal, then I could achieve others. You may need to know that I’ve been a negative person all my life with periods of deep depression, though since my brother Bob showed me a Bob Proctor seminar tape (after he had met Bob Proctor) I have been trying to become positive.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon even if you can not help.
    Diana from New Zealand

OMG! I love this article. I wish I could get more sign-ups to my RSS feed and I think that this may be the answer.

    Kudos.

May I use this as a template for my blogs?

    Jae

    Hi Jae,

It might help because it provides specific instructions - which is why I added it.

I find the new “Subscribe Now!” image at the bottom of my posts to be very helpful.

Feel free to use this template if you’d like.

    Cheers,
