3 Tips to Improve Affirmations
October 22, 2008 by Steve
An affirmation is a statement asserting a truth that you wish to exist. It’s something you intentionally want to experience. Affirmations can and will increase your amplitude of vibration if applied in the proper context. There is a wide variety of advice on how affirmations work. Use your intuition to elicit the best advice. Here are my three suggestions for creating positive affirmations.
1. Declare Your Affirmations in the Present Tense
Write your affirmations out using the present tense and not the future or past tenses. Why? Because there is only one time and that time is NOW. You can only create in this moment, right now. You can’t create in the future or the past. You can only create now.
Positive affirmations stated in the present tense send out positive thought vibrations. These thought vibrations increase your amplitude of vibration. And your amplitude of vibration is directly related to your feelings or ability to attract. The easiest way to create these feelings is by experiencing them in the NOW. And the way to do that is by stating your affirmations in the present tense.
Here is an affirmation that I use quite often,
i.e. “I am so happy and grateful now that money comes to me in increasing quantities, from multiple sources of income on a continuous basis.”
2. Affirmations should focus on what you want, not what you don’t want
Man oh man, so many people miss this. If I had a tape recorder so that you could hear yourself, you would see how glaringly obvious this is. A great majority of people speak from what they don’t want. They also write this way. And because of this I’m certain their behavior originates from the way they think. Stop and think. Are you placing your attention on what you don’t want?
Write your affirmations to affirm what you do want. Here are some examples,
I don’t want to gain 100 lbs (don’t want)
I am easily and effortlessly weighing 170 lbs. (want)
I never want to be a contractor (don’t want)
I am easily and effortlessly in full time employment (want)
3. Appeal to your emotions
Write an affirmation that feels good. You do that by using words that fire you up. The stronger the feeling, the greater the effect. I find it easier to increase my amplitude of vibration by doing two things:
- choosing words that resonate with me, that feel good
- being specific about the tone I use when stating the affirmation
You should do the same. Look for words that develop a strong feeling inside. And then use those words with a tone that resonates within you. The better you feel the higher your amplitude of vibration, and the higher your amplitude of vibration the greater your ability to attract.
A few cautions and things to watch for
- Never, ever write out an affirmation stating what you don’t want! Please, re-read that again. I am still shocked by the number of people who do this. Focus on what you want and write it out. Unsure of what you want? Read my ebook: The Genius Within You. If you’re still stuck, read it again. Repetition is the mother of learning, and pay close attention to the questions on page no. 10 and 12.
- Keep it short. You’re not writing a book. Your affirmations should be short and sweet.
- Don’t use big fancy words. Keep it simple. It’s not grade 12 Calculus. Your affirmations should be easy to remember so that you can trigger them on cue.
- Most importantly, your affirmations should be directed at your emotional mind for the greatest effect.
