Learn the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Archives for Being Successful

It’s funny – but making money is like exercising. If you can exercise routinely then you probably have the mental fortitude and persistence to make money – and lot’s of it!

Have you ever set a goal to lose weight or look really hot for your next vacation?

Maybe not, BUT I know plenty of people who have. I see them at the gym at 6am most mornings. And it has been my experience that the same 11 people go to the gym at this time of the morning. These people are mentally strong and determined to reach their physical goals.

They are persistent. Someone who gets up at 6am routinely to pump iron has definitely made it a habit.

Are these people better or smarter than you or I?

NO! They just built the mental habit to routinely be to the gym for 6am.  IF they can do it, so can you!

It all starts with the right MENTAL ATTITUDE.

Maybe you’ve read about that before… people talking about being positive and having the right mindset… but most of these people either don’t know what the heck they are talking about or just plain keep all the secrets to themselves.

In my experience, someone who gets up at 6am to hit the gym consistently has the EXACT SAME mental attitude as someone who earns more money each and every day.  I believe that each of the 11 people I see at the gym could earn a million dollars (if that was their goal) because they are mentally strong.

Why would I say that?

Because their mental attitude has given them an empowering perspective to achieve and succeed:

  • they focus on rewards and their outcome (as opposed to obstacles and challenges)
  • they focus on how they will look and feel at the END of their workout
  • they are growth driven to lift more weight, gain greater endurance and increase performance
  • they have built the mental habit to take action consistently (notice I said “mental” habit)
  • they surround themselves with people that empower them (like other people at the gym, trainers, etc.)

Yeah, people have limiting beliefs – especially when it comes to losing weight and feeling great.  BUT so do a lot of people who want to earn more money.

To me, it’s the same.

Making Money is Like Exercising

The reason I say that is because it takes the right mental attitude and a strong desire to make money.   You’re not going to figure it out the first time through and you may stumble a few times.  It’s part of the learning process.

But to persist and succeed, you must have an empowering perspective to achieve…

These are 3 of the funniest beliefs I think we have about money.  Read them, enjoy them and reflect on them.

It’s not every day that someone challenges your beliefs… but that’s really what I want you to do – because by doing so, you’ll live a more fulfilled and satisfied life.  As you read through these beliefs challenge yourself and look for the real truth.

Let’s start with…

Belief #1: I Must Work Harder to Make More Money

If you look at the way it really works – it’s that people who work the least get paid the most.  If you take someone who works in a fabrication shop – like a welder, electrician or even a labourer and compare their salary to an engineer, who do you think gets paid more?

The engineer does.  And what does an engineer do?

He sits on his ass all day.  He may write a report or send a few emails, but most of the time he sits on his ass.  Even if he decides to make a few phone calls or “engineer” something, he still sits on his butt.

Now what about the welder.  He’s working in this fabrication shop sweating – lifting heavy steel – “putting his nose to the grind stone.”  Any sort of trade is physical work – these guys and gals work hard at their job, but they still get paid less than an engineer.

Even an engineer has a ceiling on his salary – sure he or she could work longer hours – but they end up paying more tax.

So who really wins?

Working harder makes you sweaty, creates more stress in your life, leaves you “chasing the clock” and paying more taxes just so you can make an extra buck.  Working harder is a losing strategy.

Takeaway #1: Working harder is not the key to making more money.  If you want to get ahead financially, STOP working so hard.  Take a nap and give your mind some “space” to be more creative.  Work smarter, not harder.

Belief # 2: It Takes Money to Make Money

Who makes this stuff up?  I’m going to guess you heard the same thing from your parents just like I did. Click here to read more…

If you’re a skeptic about affirmations, then make sure to watch the video I’ve included at the end of this article.  In this video I share a specific REAL-LIFE example of how to successfully use affirmations to intentionally CREATE a result. Before you watch the video, here are some great insights and some of the common mistakes made with daily affirmations.

Mistake #1: Give Up Too Early

Consistency is really important with affirmations.  Once you get started, the repetition has a lasting affect that builds upon itself – creating this neural groove in your mind – so that the next time you use it, the easier it is to apply.

And not only is it easier to apply – each and every time you use the affirmation – you MAGNIFY THE result SIGNIFICANTLY.

The mistake that many people face is that they give up too early – without giving affirmations a chance to SET in their subconscious.

TAKEAWAY #1: Consistency is the key to affirmations. They longer you use them the better the results.

Mistake #2: Use a Different Affirmation Each Day

Getting gooder is much easier than getting better.  Getting better takes time, persisentence and a dedication to personal growth.  It’s a long term commitment.  But getting gooder, that’s a whole new game.  And it’s a game worth playing because it leads to improvement.  It starts the personal growth cycle.  In this article I’ll share with you how you can get gooder (so that you feel better).

When you look at getting better at something (playing a sport, dating, your career, making money), it is implied that you are already not that good – and that you even suck.  That you are broken goods.

That can be a real hit to your ego.  It can drown your self esteem.  It can lead to hopelessness and in-action because you don’t feel worthy of moving forward.

While this might be true, you can ALWAYS get better if you start by getting gooder FIRST.

Keep reading and I’ll show you how this works.

Do you drink coffee? Have you ever tried to stop?

Me neither. I like coffee.

But what about getting up early? Have you ever tried waking up early? How did it go?

That was a challenge for me. I used to dread getting up early – especially for work!

I mean 40 hours a week working in a job you don’t enjoy… who the heck wants to do that?

But nowadays I love getting up early. Yeah, you heard me… I absolutely love it!

It’s so much fun to be up before the sun rise. It feels like I have a head start over everyone else… like I have some sort of secret that nobody else knows about – and if you “get” what I’m going to share with you by the end of this article – you’ll know the secret too ;)

Would you like to hear it?

I’m sure you would. But first let me explain something important. There are two different ways you can get up in the morning.

Strategy #1:

In my personal opinion, this is the more difficult of the two. It’s like pulling teeth, but you would be surprised how many people still use it. I used it for 28 years because I didn’t know any better because I thought that was how everybody woke up!

Here’s how it goes. As soon as you hear your alarm or start to wake, you either press snooze or turn off your alarm. Then after what seems like an eternity you get this negative feeling in your gut… similar to a feeling you may have had in before when you were late (or almost late) for work. As this feeling starts to intensify, you begin to make pictures of being late for work – and worse – your boss yelling at you. Then when the feeling is strong enough, you scare yourself awake and jump out of bed.

That’s how most people wake up. This strategy works well because it is a moving away from strategy. When you move away from negative feelings you are waking up with this strategy. That’s what motivates a lot of people to get out of bed – that negative vibe.

But there is a much better way. The second strategy is my preference and one I’ve been using for the past 5 some years without missing a beat. Would you like to know it?

I thought you would.

Last night I was in Toronto to participate in a James Arthur Ray live event.  Even though we had over 20 cm (8 inches) of snow there was still a great turn out for the seminar.  Approximately 450 people attended the event.

The one unique thing about this specific event was the way it was structured.  What I’ve noticed is that many international speakers will have an agenda and marketing presentation lined up for their event.

Typically, a live event like this one will work in three parts:

  1. Introduction and a heart-felt story about the speaker; speaker “earns the right” as the authority in his/her topic
  2. Content and experiential exercises; the teaching component
  3. Marketing, product offering and seminar closing

James ran his event slightly differently. He did share his story about how he lost almost everything he had in the early 1990′s.  He explained how his life was perfect and then how it seemed to fall apart almost overnight.

About 30 minutes into the event he ran through some experiential exercises to demonstrate the inner game of wealth  You probably remember this from my James Arthur Ray – Parallel Universes DVD Review, where James says:

“It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it.” ~ James Arthur Ray

And of course, the man is running a business – so he presented a product offering at the end of the seminar.  All pretty standard stuff if you ask me.

James Arthur Ray: “What do you want?”

Career advancement can come in one of two forms:

Both types of advancement require that you follow the same process. That you do things in a certain way, just as Wattles describes in his book, The Science of Getting Rich.
