Learn the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Archives for Setting & Achieving Goals

It’s normal to have a bad day, right?  Well sure. But what if you have a bad week or a bad month?

I’ve been blogging for just over a year.  And if there is one thing that I’ve learned is that you’ve got to be consistent.  You’ve got to be consistently putting in an effort to build your blog.  It won’t build itself.

So what about those bad days?

I’ve had them and they’re no good.  You want to bounce back quickly.  Get out of that rut.  The quicker the better.  So you can get back to blogging, life and other things.

And it all begins with the proper mindset.

Here are 3 Mind Power Techniques to Become a Better Blogger:

Mind Power Technique #1: Overcome Writers Block With A Physical Change

When you’re writing and you get stuck, do this.  Get up, walk around and sit in a different spot.  See your screen from a different point of view.  Sit in a different location and gain a new perspective.

Sound to hokey?

You see one thing that’s true for anyone is that a change in your mindset will change your physiology - your body posture, facial expressions, etc.  When you think new thoughts, the chemicals in your brain change.  But what many people don’t know is that the opposite is also true.  A change in your physiology will also change the chemistry in your mind.

This the same reason why some writers will use exercise as a way to gain new insights and spark their creativity.  A change in there physical state creates a change in their internal state.  Body movement is an effective brain stimulator.

So get your body moving.  Get up and go for a walk, get some exercise or just change locations to trigger that inner change - the place where you get all of those great ideas.

Mind Power Technique #2: Track Your Progress

I think over the past 3 months, 70% of the blog carnivals I submit to have either quit or stopped publishing.  Which tells me one thing, that more than 7 out of 10 people will quit blogging within 3 months of starting.  Don’t let that be you.

Keep your momentum going by using this mind power technique #2: track your progress.

Let me explain.

Recently, I spoke to a sales representative from iperceptions - a survey company that provides statistics and data for websites.  What they do is survey people who navigate your website or blog.  As part of their surveying process they tested different methods and found something really interesting.

What they did was add a status bar at the bottom of each survey page.  That way users could see their progress as they went through the survey.  When they did this, the survey completion rates increased by an astounding 67%!

Basically, this is what happened.  When users new how well they were doing, they kept going.  But if they didn’t have any signs of progress, they quit the survey altogether.

How can you use this technique with your blog?

Start tracking the traffic of your blog by creating a blog traffic diary.  I learned this technique from Yaro Starak @ Entrepreneurs-Journey.com.  He’s got some great content on his blog and I give his Blog Mastermind Training two thumbs up as well.

A blog diary is basically a way to track the unique visitors and pageviews for your blog.  I thought it would be a good idea to track my Newsletter subscribers as well.  Here’s a snap shot of my traffic and newsletter subscribers each month from November 08 to May 09.

Freedom Education Blog Traffic

What I found from following this process is that I instinctively became more proactive.  I started to think ahead about how I could improve my traffic.  If I saw that my unique visitors were down one month, then I would brainstorm ways to improve my performance: either by creating better content or putting more effort into my marketing.

I’ve been pretty active with my blog diary.  I still keep it up to date because it’s such a great tool.  I’ve pretty much shared what has worked for me and what has not worked over the past year.  You can see my blog traffic diary here: Freedom Education Blog Diary.

This common mistake is much more subtle that the others I’ve shared with you. If you want to learn how to use the Law of Attraction correctly, then you’ve got to be crystal clear with what you want. Sounds straightforward right?

Then why is it that a great majority of people don’t get what they want? You’ll want to watch this video to find out.

The magic of believing is a double edged sword.  You may have heard of people speaking about the importance of being hopeful and having faith in your dreams, to believe in the unseen.  There is some truth in those statements, but ultimately you still have to “see it to believe it.”

So how do you believe in something you can’t see?  How do you hold your dreams close to you when there is no end in sight?  How do you achieve the impossible?

The Magic of Believing

To increase your self-belief, you require a new lens; a new way of looking at the world.  You need to understand that your eyes and brain work together to create your mental projections of reality.  It’s just as Michael Talbot said in his book, The Holographic Universe:

“The eyes may be visual organs, but it is the brain that sees.”

The fact is that your retina collects light energy and converts that light energy into electrical signals.  Those electrical signals are then processed by your brain so that you get information about what you’re seeing.

And here’s some scientific evidence that you’ll find very interesting.  A recent study (2009) completed by German scientists at the University of Munich collected data on the neural activity of mice.

When babe mice are born, their eyes remained closed for the first 3-4 weeks.  The German scientists measured the neural activity of these mice while their eyes were closed and found that activity is primarily intrinsic; meaning that brain activity along the visual channels comes from internal sources.

When the scientists measured brain activity when eyes were closed they found that 75% of the nerve cells were active.

The scientists also measured the neural activity of these mice while their eyes were opened.  With open eyes the active nerve sells reduces to about 12%.  At this time the intrinsic or internal factors become less important than while their eyes are closed.

See the special bonus I’m offering to those people who join Monique Gallagher’s, Synchronicity of Power Training.

Monique’s Training is a 16 week program that teaches you how to achieve your goals using your unconscious mind.  Monique does this by teaching her clients Cybernetic Transposition; a goal setting processes developed by Stuart Lichtman.

Cybernetic Transposition (CT) is taught in Stuart’s book, How to Get Lots of Money for Anything Fast!  I’ll be the first one to admit that these processes are difficult to learn from the book.  I failed three times before reaching my basic achievement goal, which at the time was to earn at least $2,500 in a single month from my business.  By June 17, 2009 I had $ 2,579.98 in my bank account.

I know these processes work, but I personally think they are much more effective when taught by someone like Monique; someone who can hold your hand throughout the goal achievement process and make sure you build on past successes to achieve greater results.

Monique’s real strength is in her intuitive ability to help others set the right goals and achieve them using Stuart’s Super Achievement Process.  She is an absolutely brilliant coach and even though we’ve only worked together for the past two months I have absolute confidence in her ability to help you set and achieve your goals.

The is the second post in a series on how to set the right goals.  In this article I’ll cover the second principle I use to set and achieve goals.  Before reading on, see my previous article so that you understand what I mean by the “right” goals.

You can find that article here:  How To Set The Right Goals

As I said in my previous post, setting the right goal is based on what works versus what doesn’t work.  I have a lot of experience with what doesn’t work, so I’ll spare you the details.  Here is what does work.

To set and achieve the right goals apply two principles:

  • Goals have magnitude (or feeling power)
  • Goals have direction (meaning they are specific and measurable)

I’ll use the velocity analogy again.  Goals must have velocity.  Just like a vector, they must have magnitude and direction.  Miss either one of these and you’re cooked - you’ve shot yourself in the foot before you’ve began.

Setting and Achieving Your Goals by Setting A Direction

Direction is absolutely necessary when setting goals.  Why is it so important?  Let me illustrate with an example.

Let’s say that you’ve set a goal for yourself.  You have an interest in working from home so you decide to start an online business.  As you put together your first website, you decide to write out your goal.

Your goal includes the following elements to be completed by September 1, 2009:

  • Website launched and running
  • 3,000 unique visitors
  • Networked with 3 online partners to drive traffic
  • Earning a recurring monthly income of $500
  • Acquired 400 leads with Newsletter

It seems to be fairly specific and measurable, doesn’t it?  It is, but it does lack an important element of goal setting; it lacks focus.

This goal is too comprehensive and complex.  It carries too many variables in too many directions.  That makes it almost impossible to achieve because of the ambiguity.  Being specific is one thing, but being specific in several directions scatters your focus.  The biggest problem with the way I’ve worded this goal is that it’s multi-directional.

A Multi-Directional Goal

Setting and Achieving Goals - Image 1

Multi-directional goals are way too complex for your conscious and unconscious minds.  They’re not workable because they’re confusing.  Not only that but they send unclear signals to you, to others and to the Universe at large.  Your better off working with a single target.

Set A Clear Target

You want to be crystal clear when setting your goals.  Instead of having multiple targets, choose one very specific goal to work with.  The right goal has to be specific and measurable, BUT it also must be very focused:

Setting and Achieving Goals - Image 2

There are a lot of reasons why the right goals are much easier to process and work with than multi-directional goals.  They set clear targets for your conscious mind to work with and they promote greater clarity.  They also make easy targets for your unconscious.  Here are a few things to keep in mind when setting the right goal:

  • Start with the end in mind.  In this case I choose $500 as the end point.  Launching the website, attracting visitors and building the leads for your mailing list are milestones along the way. They’re not part of your end point, they’re part of the working process.
  • Choose an end date and be specific.  I choose September 1, 2009, but it could be any date you choose.  What’s important is that the date feels right to you.
  • Choose at least three elements to describe your goal.  In this case I said, “I am quickly, easily and effortlessly earning $500 income from my website by September 1, 2009.”  If ‘quickly, easily and effortlessly’ seems like a lie to you, that’s ok.  What’s really important is how you feel about those specific words.

Once you have the right goal, you’re ready to set that goal on autopilot.  Your ready to give it to your automatic success mechanism - your unconscious mind.

“One reason why people don’t achieve their goals is because they don’t know what part of them choose the goal.”  ~ John Kehoe

I think goal setting is one of the more important elements of personal growth.  Without goals there is no direction, no life and ultimately no growth.  Setting goals facilitates your evolution.

If you’re going to set goals, you want to make sure they are the “right” goals.  When I say the “right” goals I don’t mean that I’m right and you’re wrong.  There is no right and wrong, there is only what works and what doesn’t work.  You want to set goals that work.

How To Set The Right Goals

There are a lot of tools out there to help you set the right goals.  Just keep in mind that these are just tools and nothing more.  You could have all the right tools for goal setting but they would be useless if you didn’t set the right goals to begin with.

Setting the right goals means getting back to the basics; the principles that help you understand why goals manifest in the first place.  There are two principles that I follow for setting the right goals:

  • They have magnitude (or feeling power)
  • They have direction (meaning they are specific and measurable)

You want to think of velocity when setting the right goal.  If you think back to your math class, velocity is a vector; and a vector has two parts: it has magnitude and direction.  The right goals follow both of these principles.

How To Set The Right Goals - Two Principles

How to Set the Right Goals - Image 1

How to Set the Right Goals - Magnitude

The right goals have velocity.  They have magnitude and direction.

The magnitude of your goal is the feeling behind it.  It gives your goal power.  It puts you in gear.  It drives you to take action.

Taken from the velocity analogy, it’s the speed of your goal.  The greater the magnitude, the faster you go.

How to Set the Right Goals - Image 2

Feeling is absolutely necessary when setting the right goal.  It’s your feeling that brings you into resonance with what you want.  And when you resonate with what you want, it attracts the events, people and conditions into your life through the Law of Attraction.

If you want your goals to manifest, feel them.  That means choosing a goal that feels right to you.  It means choosing what you really want.  It sounds simple enough doesn’t it?

It is, but most people still seem to miss the boat.

They don’t set the right goals.  The don’t set goals that feel right to them.  They don’t go after what they really want, they go after what they think they can get.  And since an intellectual goal doesn’t associate feeling power, it almost useless.
