9 Questions to Unlock Your Unique Ability
July 8, 2009 | 15 Comments
There are too many people in the world today doing crap they don’t enjoy. I used to be one of those people.
It was only through introspection and reflecting on past experiences that I started to get clearer on my own strengths and unique ability. By quietly contemplating a variety of questions in my life I began to see different sides of myself – and with this lens of reality I began to explore new opportunities.
When I started to explore entrepreneurship I didn’t know very much about myself. I actually only had a vague idea of what I wanted to do. At one point I thought entrepreneurship would work for me. But that dream quickly faded when I realized I didn’t have an entrepreneurial personality.
But be aware of the great trickster. Relying on your personality to find your true unique ability is a mistake. If there is one truth it’s that your personality and human psyche are plastic. They will take any shape based on your predominant thought patterns.
So the best thing you can do right now, is to start with what you’ve got. Even a ten year old boy has had some amazing personal experiences. Experiences that have taught him something about what brings him joy and fulfillment in his life. That’s where you’ve got to start.
Look at your life and really take the time to sit down and quietly answer these questions. Here are 9 questions that have helped me become clearer on my unique ability:
Q #1: When was the last time I felt that my life was most meaningful?
Q #2: When do I feel that I’m offering the best of myself to others?
Q #3: How do I express the best of myself to others?
Q #4: When do I find that I’m the happiest and what am I doing?
Q #5: What past three experiences have brought joy and happiness into my life?
Q #6: What comes naturally and effortlessly to me?
Q #7: What do others think comes naturally and effortlessly to me?
Q #8: What are some of my hobbies? What do I do for fun?
Q #9: What activities have brought fulfillment and passion into my life? Click here to read more…

Will Vision Help You Escape the Rat Race?
April 2, 2009 | 2 Comments
This article is the sixth in a series of articles on How to Triple Your Income as a Consultant.
You’ve got to have a clear picture of where you’re going. If you don’t, it’s like having a ship without a rudder. Who are you helping and why? How many hours are you working and what are you doing? What sort of lifestyle have you created? What sort of luxuries can you afford? All of this must be mapped out in your head from the very beginning.
Escape the Rat Race
You might not be in the career you want right now. You may be in a job or business that you don’t really enjoy like I was.
The way to get out of your current career and into a new one is to start picturing yourself in your new career and living the lifestyle you really want. You can start right now by checking out: Creative Visualization Insight #1.
You see, I started this process in early 2008. Every morning I got up at 5:30 am and held the image of the business and lifestyle I wanted in my minds eye. I held this image in my mind and visualized being in the new business and lifestyle everyday for five minutes a day.
“When you create the picture in your mind of how you will live when you reach your income objective, understand that the creative process has begun. It is only a matter of time before your new lifestyle becomes a physical reality.” ~ Bob Proctor
Then I began to act with faith and purpose at the job I was working in. I took effective action where I was and gave it everything I had.

4 Ways to Finding Purpose in Life
March 19, 2009 | 8 Comments
Finding purpose in life gives you direction and guidance. It channels inner forces and energy to overcome outer circumstances and conditions. It’s at the crux of leading your life, instead of having life lead you.
Are you doing what you love? Are you living on purpose?
Here are 4 ways to finding purpose in life:
1. Finding Purpose in Life with Introspection
Spend some time with yourself. Examine your life and get in touch with those thoughts and feelings that are important to you. Reflect on past experiences and ask yourself:
- When do I feel that my life is most meaningful?
- What do I enjoy doing the most?
- What activities bring me the most passion and energy?
- What are my true priorities?
- What is the deepest purpose I would like to express in my life?
Write down the answers to these questions. Just reading this is not going to cut it.
Find a quiet space and take 15-20 minutes to really answer these questions. Spend some time and really think about what brings you joy and happiness in your life. Reflect back on your life and write down the answers that come to you.
2. Finding Purpose in Life with Environment
You see, you occur to people a certain way. The way you see yourself may be different than the way others see you. The way you occur to others is a reflection of your inner self.
The people in your life are reflective of your way of being. They see things that you don’t. The clues to finding purpose in life can be found in the people that are closest to you.
Consider 5 people in your life that are close to you: your spouse, boyfriend, girlfriend or other important friends or family members in your life. Sit down with them and ask them these questions:
- What do you think comes most naturally to me?
- What do you think are my special talents and gifts?
- What do you think I am really good at?
- What do you think is really important to me?
- When do you find that I’m the happiest and what am I doing?
Again, just reading this is not going to cut it. Write out the answers and review them. Compare the answers you received from the introspection method to the environment method, then look for patterns.
- What are the similarities?
- What patterns do you see?
- What qualities, character traits and values seem to be repeated over and over again?
This is a clue. Your patterns are an indication of what is unique and special about you. This uniqueness is what sets you apart from everyone else when finding purpose in life. Click here to read more…

“Everyone has their own specific mission in life to carry out; a concrete assignment which demands fulfillment. You cannot be replaced nor can life be repeated. The world needs you, thus everyone’s task is as unique as their specific opportunity to implement it.” ~ Viktor Frankl
On Purpose Coach, Gary Gradley
Gary and I met at a personal development seminar last week in Toronto. Gary and I had the opportunity to chat on the topic of life purpose, the importance of living a purpose-filled life and some of the common blocks that prevent people from living life on purpose.

A Secret to Master Visualization
August 26, 2008 | 4 Comments
“As the sailor has the port toward which he is sailing in his mind, you must have a clear mental picture continually in your mind. You must keep your face toward it all the time.” ~ Wallace Wattles
Your mental image will manifest when impressed continuously on the formless substance. There is no doubt in my mind that this is true. It’s Law. The difficulty is in keeping that impression consistent and continuously on your mind.
The Problem with Visualization
Not let me be very clear on this. I don’t think visualization is the problem. Visualization is in fact perfect in every way. It’s perfect because the Universe is perfect. The Universe is in direct alignment with your hearts desires. It’s completely aligned for you in every aspect. In this current moment your life is in complete alignment with what you want.
The problem isn’t visualization. The problem is focus.
Tell me, What do you really want?
Really give that question some thought. I don’t think many people do. When I ask others this question, there are usually two answers,
1) They don’t know
or
2) They tell me what they think they can get

Natural Ability
August 7, 2008 | 5 Comments
“The road to happiness lies in two simple principles: find what it is that interests you and that you can do well, and when you find it put your whole soul into it – every bit of energy and ambition and natural ability you have.”
John D. Rockefeller
1839-1937, Industrialist and Philanthropist
Most people work hard at success. They think they need to work hard to be successful. I still catch myself thinking the very same thing. We should spend more time doing what we love to do as opposed to the things we have to do. Do the things that come the most natural to us. Trust in our natural ability.
The thing is that most of aren’t doing this, but why?
Work Hard to be Successful
The problem is that we’ve been trained to think that success is hard work. And I think that hard work just makes you cranky and tired.
In my opinion true success is a measure of your progression towards an ideal outcome. And that outcome is achieved by taking consistent actions that are easy, effortless and fun; actions that come naturally to you; actions that utilize your talents and natural ability.
When I say you don’t have to do “hard work”, what I mean is that life doesn’t have to be a struggle before you become successful. Life is not a sequence of punishing events before you make it to the big show. You don’t have to punish yourself or put in long hard working hours before you’re successful. The truth is that success can be easy. You just have to let it happen.
I’m not suggesting that commitment isn’t required here. Working hard and being committed are two different things. What I’m saying is that you can achieve a worthy ideal and become successful by making it easy for yourself. Do the things that make you feel good about yourself. Do the things that come naturally to you.

Dan Sullivan: Unique Ability
August 4, 2008 | 3 Comments
Dan Sullivan is the founder and creator of The Strategic Coach. He offers successful entrepreneurs a unique process for extraordinary growth, higher income, and exceptional quality of life. He’s the first person (that I’m aware of) to coin the term unique ability. If you’re struggling in your job, business or life direction then be sure to read through Dan’s concepts on unique ability.
Dan has been in the coaching business for more than 30 years. He’s worked with big names in the personal development arena including people like Jack Canfield and David Bach. He’s helped many successful entrepreneurs increase their income and their time off.
Dan believes that everyone spends their time in one of 4 areas:
- Incompetent
- Competent
- Excellence
- Unique Ability
These four areas are your life. You really want to go through each area and understand where you are. Treat this as an exercise and be open to learning something about yourself. Answer the questions at the end of each section.
1. Incompetent
Everyone has an area in their life where they are incompetent. It may not be glaringly obvious at first but it’s all a part of us. This is an area in your life where you are easily frustrated.
An area where I’m completely useless and easily frustrated is in planning. It’s tough to execute and do great things when you don’t have a plan, and I hate planning.
