You can’t just think good thoughts and expect that good things will fall into your lap. Just thinking positive thoughts doesn’t cut it as I clearly pointed out in Why Positive Thinking Doesn’t Work. What’s clear to me is that applying the Law of Attraction effectively comes from becoming clear on what you want and then making the mental shift to receive it by acting as if you already own it.
Here’s a 5 step process to help you manifest and use the Law of Attraction more effectively in your life:
Step 1: Decide What You Want
One of the best ways to decide what you want is by knowing what you don’t want. This in itself helps you create the contrast in your experience so you can put your attention on what you really do want.
It seems very simple but the honest truth is that too many people put their attention on what they don’t want as I explain in Why You Attract What You Don’t Want.
In my Workbook I point out that some people are afraid to make the wrong decision. They don’t want to look bad or think that they did something wrong and that’s why they can’t decide.
So instead of deciding they procrastinate. They put off the decision. The irony is that the more you put off your decision the longer it takes you to get clear on what you really DO want.
Just think about it. Let’s say you’ve never had a salami sandwich before, but today you decide to you’re going to have one. As you eat the salami sandwich you realize that you hate salami. It tastes absolutely awful.
You shrug this off and decide to try a ham sandwich instead (because you now know that you don’t like salami). The ham sandwich tastes great. You can’t believe how tasty it is and wish you would have known about this magical meat sooner.
The fact is that with every new experience you have you begin to experience contrast. Each time you taste a different type of sandwich you have a new experience - and each new experience gives you more contrast relative to your previous experience.
The more experiences you have the greater the contrast. The greater the contrast the faster you can pinpoint what you don’t want and get clearer on what you do want. Decision is the starting point.
Step 2: Write It Down
After you decide what you want it’s important to write it down. It’s like using a highlighter while taking notes. Written thoughts highlight an intention to your subconscious mind.
Writing out your goals and intentions also helps you gain clarity and focus as I point out in How to Believe in Your Dreams - 3 Steps.
When you write out your goals and intentions you want to give them a direction and a magnitude. This is the fastest way to Setting and Achieving Your Goals. The direction helps you stay focused and the magnitude helps you measure how you feel about what you want to accomplish.
Both are equally important when using the Law of Attraction.
Step 3: Identify Any Limiting Beliefs
Assuming you know what you want and it’s written down, your now ready to receive it. The process of receiving what you want comes through your action. The problem that surfaces is that at some point you will feel torn between acting and not acting.
In come your limiting beliefs. The only way to successfully own and achieve your dreams is to conquer your limiting beliefs. Sometimes just being aware of these limitations helps you overcome road blocks, but that’s not always the case.
There are literally thousands of these limiting beliefs and false mental scripts running in our subconscious minds. Some are more common than others, but here are what I think are the top three: 3 Limiting Beliefs That Restrict Your Ability to Manifest
Step 4: Let Go of Attachment
Attachment can come in many forms. Sometimes we need a new perspective or a way of looking at things to help us get moving again. More times than not, it’s because we’ve become attached to our outcome. As I explain in my video How to Detach From Your Desired Outcome sometimes the fastest way to get what you want is by letting it go.
When I was 16 I used to work at Wendy’s (the restaurant). At the end of the night I had to dump all the burger grease into a huge green bin by the parking lot. That was disgusting and because I was working in a greasy environment my face exploded with pimples. That didn’t help my self-esteem and it didn’t help me with girls either ;)
After working at Wendy’s for about a year I got fed up. It was greasy and the pay was mediocre. I was going to get up and quit, but felt really attached to the extra income. I didn’t want to lose this money.
Then something happened. It was during the week the Manager asked me to turn on the lights to the Wendy’s balloon as it got dark outside. You may have seen one of these balloons before. Here’s a picture,

So I did exactly what the Manager said to do. I turned on the lights for the Wendy’s balloon and went on with the rest of my evening routine.
The next morning I got into work and the Manager was furious. He said that I forgot to raise the balloon before I turned on the lights. And because I didn’t raise it before turning on the lights, several football size holes were burnt into the balloon. I burnt down the balloon. This didn’t happen once, but three times. Eventually, the Manager cut back on my shifts. This was a real drag because I wasn’t making as much money so I quit.
The lesson?
Let go of what you don’t want so you can get clear and refocus on what you do want. I held onto this job because I was attached to the money. When I finally let go of my attachment I could finally refocus on new opportunities. Two weeks after I left Wendy’s I got a new job working at a local grocery store.
Step 5: Take Inspired Action
The key to inspired action is give up what you think should do and to begin focusing on how you want to feel. So when you take action it’s really about how you feel and how you approach those better feelings with your action.
It’s not about what you think you should do.
The truth is that this shift happens slowly. At first you may only take inspired action once per week. Then as you start to get a handle on this new way of acting, it’s starts to come to you more naturally. You’ll instinctively begin acting from this new place.
Some of the greatest insights I’ve had and shared with you have come from giving up on what I thought was “right” for me and shifting my focus to what makes me feel good. Adopting this mental shift has had a huge impact on my behavior, creativity and performance.
For a more detailed look at inspired action, be sure to see my previous post: 3 Steps to Help You Take Inspired Action.
These are 5 steps to effectively using the Law of Attraction. It’s more than just thinking positive thoughts - you’ve got to decide what you want, write it down, identify limiting beliefs, let go of attachment and take inspired action.

Learn the Science of Getting Rich
April 6, 2010 | 3 Comments
I realize it’s tough out there. There are a lot of people ‘hurting’ financially. I also realize that not everyone can afford to hire a coach; so here’s the next best thing: Wallace Wattles’ 7 Principles in the Science of Getting Rich.
I wrote these lessons back in 2008 after I left my job to pursue a full time career as a coach. I was making good money at the time (almost $10,000 per month) and I was inspired by Wallace Wattles’ book, The Science of Getting Rich.
I must have read Wattles’ book almost 50 times. And by studying this book and a few others sources I started to piece together the whole mystery behind the Science of Getting Rich.
When I got all the puzzle pieces in place, I decided to recreate these principles in my own words. I wanted to share it with others so that they could understand what Wattles was trying to say in current-present day terms.
I took what I believe are the most important concepts in Wallace Wattles book and put them into an easy to understand format. You can download the 7 principles in the Science of Getting Rich here for FREE:

As part of these principles I also share a few other resources that I think you will find valuable. These resources will help you understand Wallace Wattles’ concepts in greater depth. Click here to read more…

Bob Proctor Gets Open Heart Surgery
March 24, 2010 | 2 Comments
Wow. Life is short. I saw this video with Bob Proctor and it was really touching. I hope I never have to go through something like this. I’m really glad I went to see him live last year - because it looks like he’s going to cut back on his seminars and speaking engagements for good.
This is the first video I’ve seen where Bob Proctor has publicly shared the news about his heart surgery.
In this video you’ll learn:
- about Bob Proctor’s sudden open heart surgery
- what he’s decided to do about holding seminars in the future
- a brief introduction to Six Minutes to Success

WARNING: Don’t even think of Filling the Void Until You…
March 17, 2010 | 1 Comment
I remember working as an engineer. I had just graduated from University, started working and thought, “this isn’t any fun,” because it wasn’t. It was work. Not fun. But I assumed that having a job and making money would make me happy.
Boy, was I wrong.
Even though I worked as an engineer for seven years and made good money, all that time I knew that something was missing…
…but what?
Filling the Void
When you want something - a job that you love, a successful business, a new car - it doesn’t matter what it is - you expect to DO certain things in order to HAVE what you want.
DOING comes before HAVING.
Makes sense, right?
Here are a few examples:
- you take action and prepare a killer resume (DOING) so that you can have a job that you love
- you take action and create an excellent business plan (DOING) so that you can have a flourishing and prosperous business
- you take action and go to several car dealerships (DOING) so that you can have the perfect car
Nothing too shocking about that. It takes action to get what you want.
What happens for some people is that they take action perfectly - and some of them even get what they want, but still find that they’re unhappy.
Why?
Be-Do-Have Paradigm
There is this paradigm that’s called the BE-DO-HAVE paradigm.
Maybe you’ve heard of it.
This is how it works. If you want to HAVE something, you must DO something first. Doing comes before having as I mentioned earlier.
That’s obvious, but here’s what you may not have known.
It’s that BEING always precedes DOING. That means you must first be a certain way before you ever do what’s needed so that you can have what you want.

Why You Don’t Need Motivation
July 20, 2009 | 4 Comments
Because motivation is an outside game.
Motivation relies on the conditions, circumstances and the people in your life to be just right before you feel motivated to act. If you rely on having outer conditions just right before you feel motivated to act, you could be waiting a long time.
In this video I’ll share what’s more important than motivation and why you don’t need motivation to make a change in your life. It’s all about the process and starting with the right part of the process.

Law of Gender
March 12, 2009 | 2 Comments
The law of gender is one of several Universal Laws. This law is also commonly known as the law of gestation and explains the process of moving from seeds of thought to creating physical results. The law of gender can be stated as follows…
Law of Gender
Every seed of thought has a gestation or incubation period. This seed of thought will move into form or physical results when the time is right. Know it will.
Because of my engineering background, I like to think of the law of gender as a process. It’s the cycle or natural process in nature that is fundamental to the law of gender. Consider these commonly known processes:
- A woman is normally pregnant for 9 months.
- The Earth orbits the sun every 365 days.
- The lining in your stomach gets replaced every few days.
- If you donate a pint (473 ml) of blood, it takes 4-6 weeks to regenerate.
- It takes approximately 90-100 days to grow tomatoes from seed to harvest.
In each of these examples, there is a specific time period that elapses before physical results are produced. You wouldn’t expect a woman to give birth in 3 months, would you? I hope not because you know that it takes 9 months for a pregnancy.
Likewise, you wouldn’t expect to plant seeds and have ripe tomatoes after 21 days. It takes 90-100 days to harvest tomatoes from the seed. It’s all part of the creative process.
The Law of Gender as a Process
But for some reason, we don’t think this way. We want everything NOW - we want results and in some cases we wanted them yesterday. We get impatient and forget that nature moves in cycles and is part of a bigger process.
“Understand how true it is that most people overestimate what they can accomplish in a year - and underestimate what they can achieve in a decade!” ~ Anthony Robbins
Your thoughts and feelings are part of this process. If you feel bad right now, change the thought. Change the thought and you change the feeling. You won’t feel good instantly, but you will eventually. It must happen because it’s part of the process governed by the law of gender.
The Law of Gender and Goal Setting
When it comes to goal setting and goal achievement, the same rules apply. All ideas and seeds of thought have an incubation period; a rate of maturing that cultivates a new idea. This idea will then take the shape of feelings and actions towards creating that idea. And once you take action, physical results will always follow. It’s all part of the process or the law of gender. Your goals will manifest when the time is right - know they will.
Let’s take the tomato plant as an example. Some people plant their tomato seeds. Then after some time they don’t bother to water the soil. They don’t trim the weeds and carefully nourish the plant. They don’t follow the process of nurturing and cultivating the seeds. They don’t give it any energy and then what happens?
You guessed it - the plant dies.
People will do this with their goals all the time. Maybe we have an idea or goal in mind and so we start. We write down our goal and stick it on the mirror in the bathroom. We get really excited about this goal and believe it can happen.
But then what happens? The goal isn’t nourished and given energy. We don’t visualize and affirm this goal. We don’t take daily action towards this goal and then the goal dies.
Now give this some thought: If you were responsible for a small babe, would you abandon the babe?
You probably think I’m nuts, right? You would never abandon a babe because it’s so small, fragile and innocent. It needs love and attention to grow and nourish. It can’t survive on it’s own - and the same is true with your goals.

How to Become Aware of False Beliefs
January 15, 2008 | 11 Comments
Awareness of your current beliefs is an important first step to change them. If you can’t see them, you can’t change them. Once you’re aware of what’s holding you back, anything is possible. In this article I’ll review a process that I’ve found useful to uncover counter intentions and false beliefs.
Let me explain why awareness is so important. Let’s say you’ve just bought a new shirt. The shirt is brand spanking new so it feels and looks awesome. You walk around with a lot of pride because you’re excited to show off your new shirt. Everything is great and then someone says to you, “Did you realize that you still have the sticker price on the back of your shirt?” At first, you feel offended and even embarrassed because you didn’t realize this. Then after your emotions settle you laugh it off and realize it’s the best thing that could have happened to you. You’re now aware and can peel off that silly looking sticker.
“The first step towards change is awareness.” ~ Nathaniel Branden
A lot of us these days are walking around with sticker prices on the back of our shirts and we don’t even realize it! These stickers are the same as those false beliefs that we were taught. The same hidden beliefs that hold us back from having an amazing relationship, a fulfilling career and generating an increased cash flow or income.
Awareness is important. If you had a big booger on the side of your nose, would you want to know about it? You bet you would! Increasing awareness let’s you see yourself as others see you. You get to see yourself in a new light and from a different perspective.
Becoming aware will help you uncover your false beliefs. False beliefs are thoughts that don’t serve you. These can come in many forms. They can be visual, auditory, kinesthetic <feeling type> or a combination of all of the above. Click here to read more…
