Your Unconscious Performance Limit (to Earn More Money)

Have you wondered why you make the money that you do?

Without giving it much thought, you could say that the money you earn is a function of the skills you’ve acquired over the years, your experience and choice of career. That makes sense at least somewhat, but it does bring up some bigger questions, like:

  • Why did you pick that career?
  • Why have you progressed quicker or slower than others in the same position?
  • What has motivated you to become more (or less) skillful at your job?
  • Why do some “lucky people” earn more money while others do not?

Over the years I’ve constantly been looking for answers to these questions.  A billionaire could go out and make a few million dollars today, while another perfectly able person struggles to put food on the table.

There is a huge gap.  Some earn far more money than others, but why?

Earn More Money

Here’s an example that really hit home for me.  You can take a seasoned engineer that earns $50k per year.  You could also take another engineer with the same experience (in the same location) and he could easily earn up to $100k per year.  Doesn’t make sense, does it?  There is this huge gap.

Take my personal experience for instance. When I started working as an engineer I was earning $42K per year.  It was my junior year and I was just starting out, so it was good money.  I was renting a place for $300 a month and had very few expenses.  I was living it up.  Life was good.

The after a couple of years I moved to Toronto and started earning $58k per year - a considerable jump, but with more job responsibility.  As I got better at my job, I eventually made more money.  Every 2-3 years I made considerable jumps in my income.  This made me feel good because I knew that I was worth the money, but it was a long time coming - over a period of 7 years in total.

Then something weird happened.   It was November 2008 and I decided to leave my job.   At the time I was grossing $70K per year.  I couldn’t explain it, but as I was leaving my “secure job” I was offered a role as an engineering consultant.  My income skyrocketed by another 43%!!! How to Not Make Money Blogging

I started my blog in May 2007 and blogged for just over a year.  At the end of that year I was earning $30 per month; all of it from Google Adsense which wasn’t worth calling home about. I was stuck with a tiny trickle every month because I was faced with two challenges:

  • I didn’t know how to drive traffic to my blog
  • I didn’t know how to monetize and make money from my blog

You see, you can make money blogging.  Some people don’t seem to think so, but you can if you have the right strategy and model.  I’m living proof of it and there are dozens of others who make money from their blogs.  But before you even start thinking about making money, you’ve got to understand how to drive traffic and how to monetize that traffic.

Enter Yaro Starak.

Yaro is an Australian expert blogger.  I met Yaro for the very first time in Toronto in August 2008.  At that point I had been following his Newsletter, Blog Traffic Tips for about 8 months.  After meeting him in person and receiving massive value from his Newsletter I signed up for his program, Blog Mastermind.

What is Blog Mastermind?

Basically, it’s a program that helps you make money from your blog.  But it’s more than just about making money.  Yaro teaches you a step by step process to help you build a sustainable online business using your blog so that you can earn multiple sources of income 24 hours a day x 7 days a week x 365 days a year.

Does that sound like something you would be interested in?

If so, then you’ll want to keep reading.  There are two important challenges to overcome when earning money from your blog: how to drive traffic and how to monetize that traffic.

How to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

You can’t earn money from your blog unless you have traffic and like I said earlier it took me over a year of struggling on my own to figure that one out.  I had great content, but I just didn’t have a big enough audience reading my blog.

In Blog Mastermind, Yaro covers six strategies of driving traffic to your blog:

  • Lesson 11: Marketing Through Conversations
  • Lesson 12: Leveraging Content For Traffic Part 1 - Forums
  • Lesson 13: Leveraging Content For Traffic Part 2 - Article Marketing & Blog Carnivals
  • Lesson 14: Leveraging Content For Traffic Part 3 - Guest Writing
  • Lesson 15: Search Engine Optimization For Blogs

I’ve used all of these strategies to varying degrees, but if I had to pick my favorite - it would be guest writing (Lesson 14).

Guest writing is when you create content for other prominent blogs or Newsletters in your niche.  The owner of the blog or Newsletter publishes your content while you receive traffic and the audience (or readers) receive valuable content.  It’s a win-win-win strategy and one of the reasons it’s my favorite.

But that’s not the only reason.  Guest articles are a powerful way to drive huge streams of traffic to your blog in a short period of time.  I highly recommend this approach for anyone who wants to make money from their blog.  In my opinion, guest writing is the 20% of action that creates 80% of your results.  In other words it’s effective action.  You can see an example guest article I wrote here: Would You Rather Be Right or Happy?

Writing guest articles can be time consuming, but when you get good at it, you can drive thousands of new readers to your blog and add hundreds of new subscribers to your email list in just over a few days.  I’ve done this on a few different occasions.

Am I just a nice guy?  Well yes, but there is more to it than that.

How to Create the Abundance Mindset

Give away what you got.

It’s not that complicated, really.

But let’s think for a minute; what do a great number of people do instead?

When someone has a great idea, they hoard that idea.  They don’t give it away.  They shelter and protect it.  They keep it to themselves in fear that someone else might take it.  They think, “I better save that idea for later.”  They don’t share their ideas or give them away - they keep them.

Well, let’s think - why would you do that?

The problem isn’t that your ideas aren’t any good.  It’s not even because your ideas aren’t worthy or that you aren’t worthy - because you are.  The problem is your thinking.  You think that if you give one idea away that you won’t come up with more great ideas.  And that fear has got you living in the lake of lack.

Yup, you heard me right.  Instead, start by giving what you got.

Are you short on time?

Some people are always running out of time - like it was cash or some commodity.  They’re always in a panic to get stuff done.  They’re time vampires.  They literally devour their time and suck the life out of themselves - until there is no time left.

These time vampires live in the lake of lack.  The don’t give away their time because they don’t think there is “enough time” to give.  And when you don’t think there is enough, you’re coming from scarcity or lack.

So, how do you break the pattern?

You’ve got to be willing to give from where you are.

5 Part Mini Course on Visualization

Why is there unused potential?

There is unused potential because of subconscious programming. The great majority of us only work with a fraction of our potential because of this built-in programming.

Subconscious programming will limit your results because your conscious mind is saying one thing (words or a written goal) and your subconscious mind (emotions) are doing another. It’s like driving your car at full speed with the brakes on.

When you begin to align the conscious and subconscious minds with your goals, you harmonize and begin to use your full potential. You’re still applying the same pressure to the gas, but now you let go of the breaks while you drive.

Creating alignment between your conscious and subconscious mind is an important step to realizing your goals. You can create this alignment by learning how to effectively visualize.

I Can’t Decide
