10 Tips To Get Into The Groove Of Gratitude

I’ve noticed a profound difference in my energy, enthusiasm and well being this past week. As a result of this I was able to make more of myself available to others and contribute; at work, at home, with friends, with family and with my business partners. I have found that being able to contribute more is a result of having more to give. I’ve had more to give because I feel grateful for what I already have.

In my experience getting into the groove of gratitude has come to me in many different forms. Here are ten tips to get into the gratitude groove.

1) Past Experiences – Think of past experiences that are touching to you. Think of times when it felt amazing to just be alive. Those moments are clues of times when you felt grateful. Look back at old photos, letters, videos or past experiences that left you saying, “It feels great to be alive!” Focusing on those past experiences rekindles those old feelings of gratitude.

2) Affirmations – Use affirmations to affirm your feelings of gratitude. Affirmations are simple statements written in the positive that affirm how you want to feel. You can say them to yourself or say them out loud. Here are some affirmations that I recommend: ‘I am grateful’ ; ‘I am so happy and grateful’ ; ‘I feel so thankful’ ; ‘I am so happy and grateful that …. {fill in the blank}’

3) Answer The Question – ‘What am I most grateful for in my life today?’ By repeatedly asking yourself this question you will eventually come up with some answers. These answers will create the seed of thought for more gratitude to come to you. It will get you out of a funk and into the gratitude groove.

4) Start Early I always find it helpful to start the process of using affirmations, self talk or asking the question (no.3) by starting first thing in the morning. I usually begin everyday by using one of these tips to get my thinking geared for gratitude. Starting early builds momentum and keeps me buzzing all day long. It also helps to overcome those emotional speed bumps that may come up from time to time.

5) Be persistent – Start by being grateful a little bit every day in any way that you can. Keep at until you start to shift your thinking. A shift in your thoughts will shift your feelings.

6) Don’t Lie To Yourself – How many times have you said, “I’m grateful for my car” but you never felt the feelings of gratitude? If you say to yourself, “I’m grateful for my car” and you don’t have the feelings of gratitude then you’re lying to yourself. If the car you have isn’t the one you want then stop using it in an affirmation. Stop saying you’re grateful for your car. Find something to be grateful about that will attract the feelings of gratitude.

7) Focus on What You Have – One of the biggest mistakes people make is to think about what they don’t have. This doesn’t help. You want to think of all the things that you do have; the things you are grateful for. Think of all the things that are working in your life. Think of all the money, health, friends and family you have right now. Think about your job, business, knowledge, skills and think about the creative power that you have as a human being to get you buzzing at a higher frequency.

8) Visualize – Use the screen of your mind to create images of the people you love and care about and make you feel good. Create images of your perfect career, your perfect vacation, your perfect home, your perfect mate or anything else that makes you groove to gratitude.

9) Do The Things You Love – This seems like a no brainer but it also works. If you do what you love and love what you do then you will always feel grateful. I love eating and enjoying my food. This always gets me into the groove of gratitude.

10) Appreciation Sob – If all else fails, use this killer exercise. If you get stuck and can’t think of anything to be grateful for, then try the Appreciation Sob. It’s bullet proof and it has worked for me every time. For more information on how it works, check out at Accelerating the Law of Attraction (Appreciation Sob).

Have you heard about a new book called “Thanks! How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier” by Dr. Robert Emmons? He is a research scientist and professor of psychology at UC Davis who spent 8 years scientifically studying the benefits of gratitude. You can get the book on Amazon or at any bookstore. For more info, check out http://www.thanksbook.com.

I really appreciate your advice. Strangely, I’ve been a strong believer in the power of gratitude for quite some time now, before I became a student of the Law Of Attraction. Being a Christian, it seems very normal to me to spend time every day thanking God for what I already have and being fully aware that there are many people in this world who have far less than I do. I believe that affirmations can only work, however, backed by the faith that they are true, that they have already come to pass. This is where the Bible comes in, because the words of Christ are all about teaching faith. Saying affirmations is one thing. Having the ability to believe they exist is another.

Hi Carmen – thanks for your feedback.

It’s interesting that you mention the importance of faith. About 6 weeks ago I wrote the following on a laminated card:

‘I am abundantly accumulating $ 5,000,000 per year in earnings for education and training rendered by December 31, 2011’.

I was pretty inspired when I wrote this down and thought, ‘Yeah, that’s possible’. There are other days when I would look, read and touch this card and think, ‘This is bullcrap, there is no way!’. Now having said all that I’ve had the card for over 6 weeks and I’ve noticed some strange things. I’ve had more ideas to generate money in the last week than in the last 5 weeks. I also received an unexpected check ($100) in the mail this week for absolutely no reason.

I think what I’m saying is that I didn’t have faith in the declaration initially. Now I’m beginning to see that my goal is possible and believe that it can be accomplished. I think Faith is part of the process to receiving and not necessarily the first step.

A little long-winded but there you go!
