Nice post, it reminds me a quote by Thich Nhat Hanh..

“Sometimes our smile comes from our joy, but sometimes our joy can come from our smile”

Hi, I know smiling is good, but sometimes, when you’re so unhappy, I’m not sure how you can still smile. Maybe you know how, but I just don’t know how. Maybe that’s something I have to learn from you my friend.

Hi Amos – To answer your question. I think you just smile (literally).

Act as if …. and do it! If you don’t want to smile then don’t. It’s your choice….. If you do want to smile then choose that. It’s still a choice.

I’ve had those times when I’m feeling grumpy and don’t want to let go of those bad feelings – I would keep smiling and even start dancing around until I cracked a smile…. physiology changes will affect your feelings.

Reminds me of the facial feedback hypothesis I learned about in school. This is real science. Thanks. :)

I use the smile technique in my classes in school, with great results. I’ve read that cognitive behaviour therapists use ‘frequent and regular smiling’ to lift clients out of depression. Even if the smile is fake i.e. the smiling expression without the smiling feeling)it still has an uplifting effect on physiology!

    Looking up can also help.

    :-))
