Chasing The Dream

What I want to do is share a common distinction that most people miss from time to time. (me too!)

It’s not obvious when it’s happening, but it can come to you in a flash of insight.  If you have dreams and you’re pursuing those dreams, you’ll completely relate.

Are you ready for this?

Chasing more money, more success and more happiness is what pushes it away.  Chasing = FTGWYW

English please?

Chasing = Failure to Get What You Want  (Much Better!)

How do you feel about that?

Are you irritated by what I said?

Good.  Because the more you chase after success, the further away it moves.

If you want success, you have to let it come to you.  You’ve got to ALLOW IT IN.

Being Ambitious Is What Holds You Back

Being ambitious carries this unique flavour.  Ambitious people have this very distinct feeling.  They PUSH themselves to go after what they want.

Yes… pushing to go after what they want.

So, when they’re looking at a new car, a new house, that great new job, or starting their dream business… they go after it by pushing themselves.

Here’s the problem: it doesn’t work!

Nothing, notta, zip… not even one bit.

Now let me ask you an important question before you write me off as completely insane… how do you feel when you’re “pushing yourself” towards success?

  • Do you feel more successful when you’re pushing?
  • Do you feel more abundant when you’re pushing?
  • Do you feel happier when you’re pushing?
  • Does it make you feel any good at all?

The answer is no.  It doesn’t make you feel good at all!

In fact, pushing yourself towards your goals makes you feel irritated and maybe even a little stressed.

BUT, we still do it!

The Chasing Mentality

We chase the money, the fame, the popularity, the new {fill-in-what-you-want-here}… by pushing really HARD to make it happen.  We climb that uphill battle to reach the top of “success mountain”…

And what happens when we do that?

Along the way we start to feel really stressed and irritated!

… and then while we’re feeling that way, we say… “Now that I’m feeling really {stressed, irritated, etc.}, please send me that thing that I want which will make me feel really good.”

Do you see the disconnect?

It doesn’t work!

By feeling bad, you’re pushing away what you really want

—-> Which is to feel GOOD!

Yes, I know – it’s CRAZY!

But we do it anyways.

So why is it that we do that?

Because we think we NEED to do specific things in order to BE HAPPY.

{…Boooooo!!!}

That is not it at all… you don’t need to do anything to be happy.

Limiting Beliefs Kick-In

Alas, our limiting beliefs kick in and tell us the exact opposite. They say, “…we NEED to do this and we HAVE to have that..” in order to be happy.

Do you know how tiring that state of mind can be?

It’s EXHAUSTING.  There are too many rules and too many restrictions… “I need to do this in order to get that.  I have to have this in order to feel this way…”   Blah, blah, blah, blah….

It’s so very Tiring and Exhausting!  PLEASE STOP!!!

What you MUST realize is that when you’re in that mode, it’s because of your limiting beliefs and mental conditioning.  It’s running the show… it’s running your actions, your behaviours, your perceptions and that little voice in your head.

It’s running YOU!

The reason people suffer is because they’re in their heads.  And when you’re in your head, you can only be in one of two places: in the past or in the future.

And when you’re in those two places you cannot be in the present moment.

Make sense?

If you want success, you have to let it come to you.  You’ve got to allow it in.  And the way you allow it in is by feeling really good right NOW.

Is that all there is to it?

Well, it doesn’t hurt if you take a little action too!  But don’t take action because you’re going to *get* something… do it because you LOVE the feeling of taking action.  Do it because taking action is the best feeling you’ve ever felt… do it because taking action makes you feel better than any other thing you could do.

Then… rinse and repeat, moment by moment by moment…

Luv ya,

Steve

    Steve,

I agree wholeheartedly. In fact, this morning I was reading an insightful book entitled “Awareness” and in it the author alludes to the concept of when we are in forcing or pushing ourselves or others it is a form of violence and when we are in that state ‘love’ is absent.

Forcing and pushing is not my idea of living! Life is meant to be flowing, with intuitive guidance and fun!

Thanks for writing your article. It is a very good reminder if we aren’t experiencing joy, harmony and ease we have a blocker running!

Right on, another great one. Just to add, don’t make your happiness contingent on achieving some goal, then you’re at the whim of your circumstances. Regarding pushing and striving, know that success is in the journey itself.
