How to Stop Negative Thoughts and That “Little Voice” In Your Head
November 4, 2009 by Steve
Have you ever started a new project where you were really excited and the people in your life could sense your enthusiasm?
You were completely inspired and motivated. Things couldn’t be better - you felt like this was what you were meant to be doing.
Then “WHAM-O,” you hit a brick wall. Something you didn’t expect.
Maybe you had an argument with someone special in your life or you just had a bad day, and for some reason that set everything off course.
Then as you thought of ways to get back on track - to get things going again, you heard that little voice in your head say, “Maybe you shouldn’t be doing this. Maybe this is a sign.”
And the more you listened to that little voice, the more you began to believe it - maybe the voice is right!
Know what I mean?
One of the biggest personal challenges I’ve had to face in almost everything I’ve accomplished from becoming a coach, keeping my blog going and even proposing to my wife - has been to effectively wash out that little voice, so that I could do what I thought was right for me.
If there is one obstacle that is a dream killer, it’s that little voice. It can take your big dreams and crush them…. unless you know the right technique to overcome these negative thoughts quickly.
This very powerful technique is something you won’t find anywhere else. It’s something I’ve been using for quite a while with great success. Have a look:

Thank you for this sir.
Can’t wait to try it.
Thanks Steve - your timing couldn’t be better. The voice has been making a lot of chatter lately. For some reason, it always seems to at this time of year - maybe because it snowed here north of Toronto yesterday!
Steve,
This is fantastic. I have been using positive affirmations in the past but have never applied this technique. I am going to start this TODAY!.
You rock!
@ Tom, that was too funny!
I know what you mean about the snow and can totally relate… the white stuff seems to be coming quick this year…. and my friends up North in Sudbury seem to get that chatter too - in fact, I think the whole city seems to get it ;)
@ Adrian, you’re awesome too dood. Love the awesomeness…
I always ignore that voice and I relay on (forwarding the action before making an actual choice), its kinda helped me to anticipate the results of my choices and choose the best of all.
Thax steve I will try your method :)

That was very cool Steve. At first when it started I thought; well this all sounds kind of familiar, and then you brought in something new. It felt good just following along. I’m gonna use it again for sure.
Peace
V.
Thanks steve for your reply.can i use this technique to make bad thoughts go away or when i feel depressed to make me happy and see eventually that things are ok?
Hi Kostas,
There are literally thousands of ways to “feel-undepressed,” it’s true!
I think a great number of people are uninformed when it comes to this topic and how to change their emotional state so I’ll put together a blog post on it. Should be out shortly.
And if you still have any questions, be sure to ask them in the comments. That’s the best way to get a hold of me.
Cheers,
Steve, great technique, thanks for sharing. I love the kinesthetic piece of this (the knob turning) and I’m adding a visualization piece too where I “see” the sound going down, like on a volume graph, and “see” the other sound getting big!
Great Video!
First off, when I started with this type of material, step one was tough. Many times, I did not hear the gremlins. Many of my clients have this same issue. They do not hear the gremlin voice but they know from their feelings that they are not thinking supportive thoughts.
So the first thing I help my clients do is actually get in touch with the gremlin.
I use a very friendly approach with my gremlins. Also, I teach my clients this: Your gremlin is there for a reason. Listen to it. Most times, it is your amygdala that is creating a lot of resistance. The best way to deal with that fight for flight response is to do it anyway.
So for instance, if the gremlins are saying, as in the video, “You can’t do that!” Then my question is “Really? What are you afraid of? You know we can do anything.”
And if you really listen, what is going on is that part of you is trying to stay safe and keep the status quo because change is scary to that part of the brain.
So, I thank the gremlins for sharing and let them know that we do navigate change very well and life will be good with this change.
That is my novel approach.

Hi Iyabo,
I’ve found something similar. Sometimes the little gremlin is more than just a negative thought but it’s also latched onto or a part of a belief that is much deeper.
If that’s the case then I suggest that people try this: The Unconscious Mind Power Series 3
