You left out the most important coach and that is ourselves. We are our best coaches. All the top 50 or the top 500 coaches in the world can only “lead us to the water” then it is up to us to take inspired action so we can drink from that water. So I would like to put where credit is due. We are the creators of our own life, one way or another.

So very true. As a spiritual coach myself , I teach every one of my clients that the answers are within AND YOU are your guru!

  • Veronica

    Reply Reply September 3, 2011

Zeya – of course what you’re saying is true – we are the only agent of change (and motivator, and coach!) in our lives.

In reality though, the only reason I went on this spiritual journey myself is because of inspirational, powerful people out there (some whom are coaches). I constantly lose my way and lose my motivation to continue – I always need these ‘coaches’ to bring me back. I feel there’s a lot of wisdom and knowledge out there that is to be learnt – from these coaches. I think that’s what Steve is getting at, in this post.

I couldn’t possibly be where I am without these amazing people. I would be completely lost – even with the most important tool I have at my disposal – myself.

I’m a believer in Conversations With God and not attached to any organized religion but I listen to half an hour of Pastor Joel Osteen on You Tube every day. He is really good – never out to stone us but always there to lift our spirits.

I agree, Joel Osteen gave me the spirit of positivity, almost every day I listen to his sermons while preparing for work. He changed my way of thinking plus I learned how to be petient and positive, I consider this as one of the most impportant skills nowadays. I have outstanding results and of course plus many other activities that I engage myself for boosting my self esteem and confidence for feeling great. I strongly recommend him no matter your religion.
I am reading a lot from the above mentioned Coaches as well and I feel alive and happy again.

Ester Hicks a ‘Law of Attraction’ coach? Come on man! She channels a spiritual group called ‘Abraham’. She does not call herself a coach nor does she or Abraham ‘coach’ people by definition of the term as coaching is generally known.
The idea of coach/coaching also applies to: Bob Proctor, T. Harv Eker, James Ray and Kendall Summerhawk. They all give trainings, have products and speak. One on one or group coaching doesn’t exist with them, especially James Ray.

The only one here that could qualify as a coach is Tony Robbins because he DOES coach people and has been for decades. It sounds like you’re tossing around the term ‘coach’ so loosely that ‘anyone’ who gives trainings or has a book or product out ‘is’ a coach by your definition.

If you get a little closer to the real term, you might garner more credability in your writting of this article. As it is, it’s more like the top 50 people who give trainings, have products or books out. This really can’t be taken as a serious list of top ‘coaches’ since hardly any are truly in the ‘coaching’ industry.

There are a lot of inspirational people on this list, and I have purchased and used several of these folks in my lifetime but the problem with them helping with REAL personal change is that it isn’t personal. Or really individualized. You get inspired by their thoughts and ideas and it works for awhile but it doesn’t help with the stuff that makes us mess up in the first place. She’s probably not big enough to be in the “top 50” obviously, but my biggest help came from a regular counselor who also does coaching. She was the first person to really help me see and understand ME in a way I hadn’t before, which was much more effective than just an inspiring pep talk or idea. Her name is Elizabeth Read if you want to check her out. website is http://www.virtualshrink.org It helped me so much I’m considering going into the biz myself, hence finding my way to this website post ;) Anyway, Good luck! and check her out if you are looking for help! She’s definitely much more affordable than attending the trainings of these guys for sure!

Thank you Molly for your honest appraisal of your experience with changing your own life and taking full responsibility for it. As you say, there is no quick fix and it is a lifelong process.

Change takes time, much time to take place in our life. I teach people how to unravel their life and they in turn, develop their own Personal Development model (PDM). This is outlined in my first book written in 2007 and rewritten in 2014 which is called If it’s to be: It’s up to me.

What I love about the work I do is that when people take the time to do the work necessary, they can indeed live a life they love with the good bits and bumpy bits. And they can then pass that information on to everyone in their life. This creates intergenerational change and in the long term, generational change.

If you’d like to read more about what I do, go to my LinkedIn profile or contact me.

      Have a great day.

      Best wishes

The list is made up for transformational leaders, trainers and business development people. Most of these people are not life coaches. You may want to look up what life coaches do and are all about. Life coaching is a process of asking powerful questions and drawing out the greatness of individuals. We all have our own brilliance. Life coaches draw it out.

    • Merydith Willoughby

      Reply Reply February 26, 2017

      Hi Ken

Life coaching is a relatively new industry and it is very important that anyone wanting to use the services of someone in this industry firstly does their homework.

You can attain a qualification in a few weeks and at little cost. One has to be very careful when selecting a life coach to work with.

Human beings are complicated and who knows what is in the unconscious mind. As you say, coaching asks deep questions and it can stir up issues and memories we were not aware of. Hence, someone who asks deep, personal questions needs to understand much about the human psyche.

Coaching is an incredible tool to use and I have seen what is possible with my clients. While the life coaching development was important, so was the executive coaching, team coaching, accredited life coach development. All of this training and development enhances what I do with whomever I am working and at whatever level of society they are in.

However, and the big however is that the only change that comes is when the client is willing to work very hard and to stay focused.

Living a life we love is a lifelong commitment. It’s like peeling an onion, the deeper you go the more you find.

I would not advertise myself as only a life coach because to me that qualification aids me in my whole processional role.

Whether I am working with executives or others, there is always a component of the life coaching methodology being used because it is fundamental to human development.

Have a great day and if you’d like to read articles I’ve written, you can do so at my LinkedIn page or email me.

      Cheers, Merydith Willoughby

Mary Morrissey, in my opinion, does a very good job of Life Coaching in a way that is spiritually uplifting. She takes into account Visioning and Goals for Finance, Health, Relationships and Creative Expression. I have also benefitted from programs by Louise Hay, Stephen Covey and Tony Robbins, all previously mentioned, and the master predecessor of them all- Napoleon Hill!

  • From my perspective and after having worked in this industry since 2003 and also ‘walking the talk’ myself, Zeya’s comment is the one that reflects what life is really about.

There is no quick fix to living a life you love and to developing a career you feel passionate about.

The work I do assists you to develop your own Personal Development plan (PDP). It’s detailed in my first book called If it’s to be: It’s up to me.

You can learn how to fill yourself up to the brim and reprogram yourself second by second, minute by minute, day by day, month by month, year after year so that you do learn how to live a life you love, that you learn how to develop your blue print for your fantastic life and that you teach yourself how to get through the other bits that are not as palatable.

And the best thing about all of this is that when you have developed your PDP and when you continue to focus, you can share your newfound skills with everyone else you know. Imagine that. You can all work together to develop and live a life which is important to you.

It would be my pleasure to assist you to live a life you truly love and one where you become a beacon for others to live their life with hope and inspiration.

Give Leadership Talk a call – we’d love to chat to you about how you can develop your PDP.

The greatest problem with setting out to list 50 Best Life Coaches in the World is that you are creating an opportunity for others, all of whom have opinions and their own favorites, to judge your ability to be a judge – as opposed to reading the content. It is an almost thankless task.

There ARE probably 10 or so COACHES and TRAINERs who are at the top of their game, highly knowledgable, experienced, and have a powerful ability to communicate and who would appear in almost all lists. “Below” those are a vast number of very good Coaches, Trainers, Speakers, and aspiring Contenders.

My take on this list is to see who consistently appears across other such lists … and there are less than ten of those names in your list. The regular top of the list are: Tony Robbins, Bredon Burchard, Brian Tracy, Deepak Chopra, Jack Cranfield, Seth Godin, Wayne Dyer. I was personally surprised to see that Bob Proctor was not a regular on the lists.
    .
Finally, thank you for whoever introduced me to Pastor Joel Osteen’s channel — never come across him before but i was inspired by his “I AM” sermon.

Although this is a great list, there are a lot of celebrity coaches on this list, and let’;s face it, most of use won’t get the opportunity to work with any of them, except online or perhaps in some large seminar. Coaching works best when you can interact personally with the coach.

    Here are my top picks

    Maria Nemeth

    Henry Kimsey-House

    John Whitmore

    David Frank Gomes.

Face it…. 85% of those people are celebrities and self-help “woo-woo” gurus, not coaches. No coach worth a damn will touch “the secret” or that “law of attraction” garbage.

Where’s Taki Moore? Simon Sinek? Jason Capital? Elliot Hulse? Chase Jarvis? There as much “coaches” as most of those listed, and a million times better. Check out Jack Gerdes. He just came out of nowhere, and he’s f*cking amazing too.

The one who had the biggest influence on me has passed away. Her name is Patricia McDade, and she helped Werner Erhard build EST into the world wide organization. She was my mentor for about 10 years, and I was a coach in her program called the Entrepreneural Edge. She also was the coach to several of the celebrity coaches that you have on your list.

This is a great extensive article. I’ve been doing my research of Life Coaching this morning as I’m trying to narrow down my niche as I help Life Coaches with their digital marketing to attract clients fast. On my research however I haven’t seen anyone talking about Positive Psychologist Coaches (ie Happiness Coaching) much. I know Positive Psychology is a rather new field but I’m thinking this could even be a great niche for me as I have worked with some of these coaches before, and as with the spirituality coaches they find it hard to charge high ticket prices for their services which is what I teach. Thanks for a great informative post! http://www.wealthymind.com.au

I have looked around a lot for a coach both online and offline. The only factor kept me holding back was the return on investment I would be receiving. Let’s face it, These are costly services and people will think twice, no thrice before investing in those programs.

Ah..Those days of searching without knowing what I was looking for is past for me. When I have given up on this endeavour of mine, when I was puzzled by too many life coaches popping up on my newsfeed of social media, I found the perfect guide for me. The amazing thing is that he is not even in social media!

He is very much inaccessible. One of my colleague had a small session with him regarding his focus building and he bought the mentor’s name to me.

The universe works in a very mysterious way, you never know, what ever you are looking for is just around the corner. You are not looking properly!

Anyway, I hope my words reach those people who genuinely require a LIFE DESIGNER to transform themselves or become the best versions of themselves. His website is https://www.parthapd.com

I must say you have done a awesome job with this.

There are such people out there however they may not live in LA or other big cities.
